Canucks go into all-star break with ugly loss to Coyotes

GLENDALE, AZ (NEWS 1130) – The Canucks talked about how important it was to get the two points in Arizona before the all-star break. Their effort showed otherwise in an ugly 3-0 loss to the Coyotes.

Vancouver Coach Willie Dejardins wasn’t happy with his teams effort “We weren’t good enough, it’s that simple. I told the guys that after. This is a tough way to head into the break.”

Arizona outshout Vancouver 8-0 through the first 20 minutes, the first time the Canucks didn’t register a shot in a period since 2009, but it remained scoreless after one.

It stayed that way until the 12:56 mark of the second when Lawson Crouse squeaked a wraparound past Ryan Miller giving the Coyotes the lead.

The Canucks came to life in the period, registering 13 shots in the second, but Arizona was up 1-0 going into the third.

Sven Baertschi put Vancouver in trouble when he was given a double minor for high-sticking early in the period. The Coyotes capitalized when Alexander Burmistrov put a wrist-shot into the net with Miller out of position. Tobias Rieder added an empty-netter late.

Mike Smith made 19 saves for the shutout.

Vancouver goes into the all-star break a point behind the Flames and Blues for a wild card spot in the Western Conference.

The Canucks are off until February 2nd when they will host the San Jose Sharks.
