More than one dozen crashes involving transit buses

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The snow is causing a lot of problems on the local roads for drivers and bus drivers are no exception.

TransLink confirms there have been 14 collisions involving its buses today while others are stuck trying to navigate up or around steep hills and sidestreets.

“Several coaches are stuck on Commercial Drive. We have coaches stuck at Dunbar Street and Marine Drive and Davie and Nicola Streets,” says Anne Drennan, who speaks for the transit authority.

She adds they’ve got crews out trying to get these buses moving once again and is pleading for people to be patient.

Despite the heavy snowfall, Drennan says TransLink is maintaining regular service. “West Vancouver is not providing bus service past Marine Drive, so they’re only going as far as Marine Drive.”

HandyDART is only running on an essential service schedule only, meaning only for renal and cancer patients. “In Vancouver, Richmond, North and West Vancouver there is normal service for HandyDART, but with delays in Surrey, White Rock, Maple Ridge and Langley,” adds Drennan.

You are being told to dress warm for the conditions and to expect some possible delays at bus and SkyTrain stations if snow begins to accumulate.
