STORM CENTRE: Rainfall increasing risk of localized flooding

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Freezing rain in the eastern suburbs and Fraser Valley should change to rain later today.

Highway crews implemented a temporary traffic stop for safety reasons on Highway 1 in both directions before the Port Mann Bridge this morning. The span was closed so crews could clear ice off the cables, but it has since re-opened.

Areas further north could continue to receive heavy snow along with the risk of freezing rain for part of the day. Further snowfall accumulations of 10 to 20 centimetres are expected. The snow is forecast to change to rain this afternoon. In addition, significant rainfalls of 20 to 30 millimetres are expected after things change to rain.

Snow is melting quickly and highways, roads, walkways and parking lots are slippery. Localized flooding in some low-lying areas is possible.

SCHOOL CLOSURES:
