Trudeau getting ready for first meeting with Trump

YELLOWKNIFE (NEWS 1130) – Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is preparing for his first face to face meeting with US President Donald Trump on Monday, and is conceding today he may differ with Trump on certain topics.

The prime minister is in the Northwest Territories but during a town hall in Yellowknife, he had this meeting at the White House on his mind.

Justin Trudeau says he’s going to be talking to Donald Trump about many issues they can connect on, such as jobs, economic growth and the smooth flow of goods across the border. but after weeks of focusing on the positives, Trudeau now admits they won’t see eye to eye on everything.

“We’re also going to, I am sure, talk about things where we disagree on. I’ll do it in a respectful way. Canada will always stay true to the values that have made us this extraordinary country.”

He didn’t flat out say what these disagreements are, but it’s clear Trump’s positions on border controls and immigration conflict with Trudeau’s.

It’s not clear how long the two leaders will meet on Monday.

NEWS 1130’s Cormac MacSweeney will be covering the meeting in Washington. Tune in throughout the day on Monday for his reports.
