Canucks drop one late in regulation in Boston

BOSTON, MA – (NEWS 1130) – The Vancouver Canucks were game at times in Boston on Saturday, but it was David Pastrnak who continued his fine season with the winning goal, his 25th, to hand the Canucks its second defeat on the six game road trip, 4-3.

That Pastrnak tally came with just two minutes remaining in regulation, as he fended off Chris Tanev and fired a quick shot past Ryan Miller. The Canucks had tied the game three minutes prior on a Markus Granlund power-play goal. Vancouver’s much maligned power-play has tallied in four straight games.

Granlund now has seven goals in his last fifteen outings, but the Canucks still sit six points back of the LA Kings for the final wild card spot in the West.

Anton Khudobin made 29 saves for just his second win of the season as Tuuka Rask recieved a rare day off. The Bruins improved to 2-0 since Bruce Cassidy took over as interim head coach. The Bruins are 3rd in the Atlantic division, just two points back of the Ottawa Senators for 2nd.

Kevan Miller, Frank Vatrano, and Colin Miller also scored for Boston.

The Canucks did open the scoring in the game off an odd-man rush. The play was created by Alex Burrows and Jannik Hansen, while Bo Horvat followed up to pot the rebound for his 15th of the season, and the 100th point of his young career. All three of Burrows, Hansen, and Horvat finished with two points.

Burrows was credited with the team’s second goal just before time expired in the 2nd period, when the veteran managed to bank one in off of Khudobin to tie the game headed to the 3rd.

Both teams are back at it on Sunday, with the Bruins hosting the Canadiens, while the Canucks will visit the Buffalo Sabres.
