Canucks fly in to Pittsburgh for a date with the Penguins

PITTSBURGH (NEWS 1130) – The Canucks six game road swing has landed them in Pennsylvania for a game against the Penguins this evening. It’s the fifth game of the trip and Vancouver has split the first four contests.

Brandon Sutter is celebrating his 28th birthday this evening and he will also be playing in Pittsburgh for the first time since being traded by the Penguins in 2015. Sutter says he is looking forward to facing his former teammates.

“I had a couple of really fun years here. It is a fun place to play and it is always fun to come back and seeing the old staff and the old players. I’ve seen a lot of familiar faces.”

Bo Horvat will miss the game after blocking a shot late in Sunday’s game against the Sabres. Brendan Gaunce has returned to Vancouver after a brief stop in the AHL with the Comets and will take Horvat’s spot in the lineup. Gaunce had no goals in 47-games with the Canucks before being sent down, but he hopes he has found his scoring touch after finding the back of the net twice in four games with Utica.

“I want to play hockey. I want to be back here obviously. When I was in Utica I was focused on helping the Comets win and now that I am back with the Canucks I am here to help Vancouver win as well.”

Ryan Miller gets the start in net, while the Penguins will counter with Matt Murray. Murray has won three of his last four starts.

Penguin captain Sidney Crosby enters the game just two points shy of 1000 for his career. He has been held pointless in two straight games.

The puck drops at 4 p.m. and you can watch it on Sportsnet.
