Vancouver ranked 5th for worst traffic congestion in Canada

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Drivers in Vancouver spent up to 30 hours last year stuck in traffic, according to the latest report from traffic analytics firm INRIX.

The city ranks fifth of the 20 Canadian cities the firm looked at. Montreal fared the worst, followed by Toronto, St. John’s, and Ottawa.

Gordon Price, director of The City Program at Simon Fraser University, says while gridlock can be a headache, it’s also a sign of economic activity.

Transportation expert Gord Price says gridlock can be a headache… but it’s also a sign of economic activity.

“Even if you could solve the problem you might not want to, because you’ll have to spend an awful lot of money just to move the problem somewhere else,” he says. “It’s definitely going to happen with the Massey Crossing.”

Of the 1,064 cities INRIX examined globally, Los Angeles ranked first across all categories.
