Protesters to rally at Trump Tower opening next week

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Donald Trump won’t be in Vancouver next week, but two of his sons will be when the luxury tower bearing the US president’s surname officially opens on Tuesday.

But that opening will come with controversy.

“Vancouver is one of the cities that is so diverse, so open and most of the people here are very open and very cultural. To have such an aggressive name on a building in Vancouver, with that much hate, all of that is pretty upsetting,” says Nora Fadel, who organized an anti-Trump rally that will coincide with the tower’s opening.

She’s not sure exactly how big the turnout will be but predicts it won’t be insignificant.

“Right now on their web page it says around 2.4 thousand interested, I’m assuming we have about 600 now. But it all depends, sometimes there can be more, sometimes there could be less.”

The rally will kick off at Jack Poole Plaza at 4 p.m. before marching past the tower on the way to the US Consulate where it will pause before returning to the plaza.

“Then there will be one to two minutes of complete silence because sometimes, silence can be more powerful than words,” says Fadel, adding the Trump name does not represent Vancouver.

“It all adds up again to the idea of Trump and his hate and how that should not be a part of such a loving city.”

Fadel has spoken with the VPD which will have officers on hand to help handle traffic along the busy downtown route.
