Canucks offence listless in loss to Sharks

SAN JOSE, CA (NEWS 1130) – The Canucks slide towards the bottom of the standings continued with a 3-1 loss in San Jose.

Things started off well for Vancouver when Ben Hutton set up Bo Horvat in front for a power play goal just 7:38 into the first period.

San Jose pulled even with less than five minutes left in the period, when Mikkel Boedker sniped one in from the right face-off circle. The Sharks had a chance to take the lead when Chris Tierny was awarded a penalty shot, but he was stopped by Canucks goalie Ryan Miller.

It was all Sharks in the second period. After pressuring Vancouver thoroughly, it paid off when Marcus Sorensen put a loose puck past Miller, getting the first NHL goal of his career and giving San Jose the lead. Logan Couture put the Sharks up two less than five minutes later when he went top-shelf over Miller from in close.

The Canucks couldn’t generate much in the third period, failing to test Sharks goalie Aaron Dell

Miller kept his team in it making 29 saves in the loss which ended the Canucks six game win streak at the SAP Centre.

Waiver wire pickup Joseph Cramarossa made his presence known in his first game in a Vancouver uniform. He fought Sharks tough guy Micheal Haley in the first period.

The Canucks have lost 11 of their last 14 games and continue their road trip Saturday in Los Angeles.
