Canucks tab Bachman to start in Anaheim against the Ducks

ANAHEIM, CA (NEWS 1130) – The Canucks got a little bit of luck on the way to a 4-3 victory in Los Angeles on Saturday night, and now they hope it continues in Anaheim Sunday against the Ducks. (SNET. 5pm)

As well as Ryan Miller played last night in the LA victory, the Canucks will turn to Richard Bachman between the pipes in Anaheim. It’s the first start of the season with the big club for Bachman, who was called up after Jacob Markstrom went down with an injury a week ago.

“It’s exciting.” Bachman said before the game on Sunday morning.

“It’s another great opportunity, and its always an honour. It’s something you work for every day, especially down in the minors to get those chances and those opportunities. You just want to relish it and go out there and have fun.” Bachman added.

Bachman has stepped in for the Canucks before, but it was awhile ago – he made 28 saves in a 4-3 win over the Arizona Coyotes in late October of 2015.

For what it’s worth, the Canucks are still alive in the chase for the postseason – seven points out behind a Kings team they just beat in regulation.

“We know we can play a little better.” head coach Willie Dejardins said after the win in LA.

“I think our team has good parts right now. I don’t think we’ve played as well as we can play. I think we have more.”

The Ducks sit third in the Pacific division, but the Calgary Flames are breathing down their necks, trailing Anaheim by just two points going into Sunday’s action.

The Ducks defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 5-2 at the Honda Center in the team’s last outing.

The Canucks and Ducks have met twice so far this season, splitting two games.

Vancouver opens a five game home stand on Tuesday against the Montreal Canadiens at Rogers Arena.
