One person presumed dead after fishing boat sinks near Comox

VICTORIA (NEWS 1130)-  A fishing boat carrying herring has capsized and sank in the deep ocean waters near Comox on Vancouver Island.

The Victoria Joint Rescue Coordination Centre says one person is presumed dead, while four others survived.

The call for help is said to have come in around 4 P.M. while the boat was transferring fish to another vessel.

Those that survived made it the other boat.

The JRCC says the missing crew member was in the engine room, investigating some sort of mechanical problem and was trapped inside as the boat went down in around 260 metres of water.

The case has been to handed to RCMP and will be handled as a missing persons file.

The body may never be recovered.

No name has been released.
