The Islanders needed OT to beat the Canucks

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Andrew Ladd scored just over a minute into overtime and the New York Islanders defeated the Canucks 4-3 at Rogers Arena.

Calvin de Haan fed Ladd for a tap-in winner after the Canucks had a couple of chances at the other end.

Vancouver defenceman Troy Stecher forced the extra frame scoring with just 19 seconds remaining in regulation. Understandably, he was frustrated with the outcome. “We stuck with it and found a way to force overtime. Hockey is funny like that, we felt great about our game and ended up losing.”

Reid Boucher and Sven Baertschi had the other goals for Vancouver. Ryan Miller made 24 saves in the loss.

John Tavares, Anthony Beauvillier and Brock Nelson scored in regulation for New York, and Thomas Greiss made 36 saves.

With the win, the Islanders moved a point ahead of Toronto for the second wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference.

The Canucks sit six points back of the playoff in the West, and will host the Penguins on Saturday night.
