Canucks and Islanders clash tonight in Vancouver

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The Canucks faint playoff hopes continues this evening up against the New York Islanders at Rogers Arena. Vancouver enters the contest seven points back of St. Louis for the final wild card spot in the Western Conference. The Blues have one game in hand.

Coach Willie Desjardins says his team is keeping a positive attitude and it is translating to some success on the ice. “The room still competes hard. They come out and the believe they can find a way to win. Even when our team is down, we believe we can come back. Our goaltending has been good as well.”

The Canucks are hoping to face a tired Islanders team that is playing game eight of a nine game road trip. New York is one point up on the Maple Leafs for the final wild card spot in the Eastern Conference.

Nikolay Goldobin has the flu and will not play this evening. Nikita Tryamkin took the morning skate and could play this after missing the last game.

Ryan Miller gets the start in net while Thomas Greiss will be between the pipes for the Islanders. He has a 10-9-3 record on the road this season.

It is the second and final meeting of the season between the two clubs. The Islanders defeated the Canucks 4-2 on November 7th.
