Creep Catchers president named in lawsuit

ABBOTSFORD (NEWS 1130) – A group of people who feel they’re making our communities safer are themselves the subject of a lawsuit.

An Abbotsford man claims his reputation has been damaged by Surrey Creep Catchers.

The lawsuit specifically names Surrey Creep Catchers president Ryan LaForge and a post on the Facebook page.

The plaintiff is Jamie Su, an Abbotsford man who owns a restaurant.

The court documents claim the Facebook post falsely accused him of “a scheme to procure sexual relations with an under-age female,” and that the post was seen 56,000 times.

The suit says Su has now been the subject of “ridicule, hatred and contempt.” Su claims his reputation and business have suffered as a result.

Creep Catchers made the headlines last year for apparently catching several men, including a high school principal and a Surrey Mountie, on video.

Members of Creep Catchers try to nab online predators, by setting up encounters with them, then video-taping the confrontation.

Police investigators, however, say that kind of online sleuthing should be left to them.
