EDMONTON (NEWS 1130) – Connor McDavid is going to be a thorn in the Canucks side for years to come. His 25th goal of the season was the winner, Mark Letetus added the insurance marker as Edmonton beat Vancouver 2-0.
Vancouver had its chances to get on the board, but Oilers goalie Cam Talbot was equal to the task making 33 saves for the shutout.
Power plays continue to be a weak point for the Canucks. They went 0 for 2 in this one and only have two goals in their last 36 chances with the man advantage.
The game got off to a slow start. Neither team could manage to generate much offense in the first. Vancouver got the only power play of the opening period but failed to convert.
It stayed scoreless until late in the second period when McDavid took a pass from Andrej Sekera and ripped a wicked wrist shot top shelf past Richard Bachman giving the Oilers the lead.
Edmonton put it away with less than five minutes left when Letestu ripped a one-timer into the net on the power play.
Bachman was sharp making 21 saves in just his second start of the season keeping Vancouver in it.
The Canucks continue their road trip Tuesday in Chicago.
