Paajarvi’s pair leads Blues to win over Canucks

ST.LOUIS, MO (NEWS 1130) – The Canucks slide towards the bottom of the standings continued. Magnus Paajarvi had a pair of goals to lead the Blues to a 4-1 win.

Paajarvi’s second goal came with some controversy. With St.Louis leading 2-1 midway through the third, It looked like he was offside when Patrick Beglund carried the puck into the Vancouver zone. The play went on and Berglund set up Paajarvi. who beat Miller short side.

Canucks Coach Wille Dejardins challenged, but the replay officials said it was a good goal, even though it appeared the call should’ve been reversed.

“We had some opportunities. The missed shot and off-side goal are turning points in the game. Those are big plays at big times.” said Henrik Sedin.

Things started off well for the visitors. Vancouver’s Captain opened the scoring for the second straight game. Just over 13 minutes in, he banged the rebound off Alex Edler’s shot past Jake Allen.

St.Louis came back to tie it just under four minutes later. After being robbed by Ryan Miller earlier in the period, Paajarvi beat Miller from in-close, evening things up.

The Blues had a great chance to take the lead on a power play during the second period. Miller kept it tied though, making several key saves.

Vancouver’s best chance of the middle frame came just as that penalty ended. Defenceman Nikita Tryamkin took a pass coming out of the box, only for his shot to beat Allen, but not the post.

It stayed tied until the 17:13 mark of the middle frame. Canucks defenceman Chris Tanev’s made a terrible pass up the middle, turning the puck over.

Ivan Barbashev intercepted the pass at centre, and set up Kyle Brodziak who made no mistake beating Miller high blocker side, putting the Blues up 2-1 going into the final period.

St.Louis doubled their lead midway through the third on Paarjarvi’s second controversial goal before defenceman Alex Pietrangelo iced it with an empty-netter with just 2:35 left in the game.

The Canucks continue their road trip Saturday morning in Minnesota.
