Carbon monoxide likely cause of four deaths near Ashcroft: Coroner

ASHCROFT (NEWS 1130) – Four people, including two kids, have been found dead in a home near Ashcroft.

The BC Coroners Service suspects carbon monoxide gas is to blame and has ruled out foul play.

The extended family has been notified of the deaths. On behalf of family members, the BC Coroners Service asks that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time.

RCMP were asked to check up on a home at Venables Valley Friday afternoon, and that’s when they found the four bodies.

Police say there is no threat to the public. Autopsy results are expected later this week.

Ashcroft councillor Barbara Roden says it has shaken area residents.

“It’s a terrible tragedy. We are glad the RCMP have brought in counsellors because there will be a lot of grief there in the next few days.”

Meanwhile, RCMP are now confirming the deaths of three people found in a Moberly Lake home last week was the result of a murder-suicide.

A woman, Linda Watson, and her 15-year-old daughter, Krystina Haggard, were killed by a man who had just arrived in the community.

That man, Tony Labrie, then killed himself.

The Saulteaux First Nation, where the shooting took place, says it’s in deep shock. A vigil is taking place in Moberly Lake, which is near Chetwynd, Sunday.
