BC billionaire makes record donation toward new Vancouver hospital campus

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Jimmy Pattison has just made the largest donation by a private citizen to a medical facility in the history of the country.

The BC billionaire is giving $75 million to create a massive 18.4 acre campus on the False Creek Flats near Science World, which will include the new St. Paul’s Hospital.

The Jim Pattison Medical Centre is touted as a world-class medical and research centre in the heart of Vancouver. It promises to be a hub for services that reach across the city and the province, including 24/7 primary care, specialized surgical services, mental health care, and more.

“A gift of this magnitude will have an impact today, and for generations to come,” says Dr. Jeff Pike, Physician and Director of Clinical Planning for Providence Health Care’s Redevelopment Project.

“Our patients’ care experience will be greatly improved, and they’ll be supported from hospital to community to home – receiving the right care, at the right time, at the right place.”

If everything goes to plan, the new St. Paul’s Hospital should be completed by 2024.
