Hansen, Sharks end losing streak with win over Canucks

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The Canucks lack of offensive fire power was apparent yet again in a 3-1 loss to the Sharks.

Vancouver only has four goals in its last three games. Daniel Sedin thinks the top line deserves some of the blame “We battled hard, but we didn’t score enough. It’s been tough. Our line isn’t going and it hasn’t been there enough this year.”

Trailing 2-0 in the third, Sven Baertschi got the Canucks on the board when his shot bounced off Marc-Edouard Vlasic’s stick and fooled Martin Jones, giving the home team some life.

Martin Jones made two excellent saves off Daniel  and Bo Horvat with less than a minute to go to preserve the win. Patrick Marleau put it away with an empty-netter with 2.6 seconds left.

Tomas Hertl opened the scoring 11 minutes when he put a rebound past Ryan Miller. Former Canuck Jannik Hansen picked up an assist on the goal.

Less than two minutes later, Hertl got his second of the game when the puck ricocheted to him off Alex Edler and he put into the empty net.

The second period didn’t see much action. Neither team was able to generate much offensively, but the Sharks lost one of their key play makers. Centre Joe Thornton left the game with a lower body injury and did not return.

It stayed a two goal game the 16:07 mark of the third until Baertschi’s 18th of the season.

The Canucks have lost 11 of their last 13 and play in San Jose on Tuesday.
