Canucks hope to leave the Coyotes howling in Arizona

GLENDALE, AZ. (NEWS 1130) – The Canucks and Coyotes will clash this evening in the desert. Both teams are well out of the playoff race and the players are simply playing for jobs next season. Arizona enters the contest on a bit of a hot streak with five of a possible six points in its last three games. The Coyotes are now just one point back of the Canucks for 28th in the standings. Captain Henrik Sedin says Vancouver has to be ready for the skilled young forwards of the Coyotes.

“They are playing really good hockey right now. Their younger players are playing better and better. It will be a good test for us and we have to be ready. We have had some tough games in this building before so we have to be focused.”

Much like the Coyotes, Vancouver is sporting one of the younger rosters in the NHL down the stretch. Brock Boeser has not looked out of place in his first few games as a pro. He says he is trying to learn as much as possible.

“Each day you have to show up to the rink and bring your best effort. That is why these guys are all NHL’ers. They work hard and get better every day. It has been tremendous so far and I am really excited to be here.”

Ryan Miller gets the start in net, while the Coyotes will counter with Louis Domingue between the pipes.

It could be the final time the Canucks play Shane Doan. The Coyotes captain will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season and the 40-year old remains undecided on his future.

Arizona will be playing this game with out all-star defencemen Oliver Ekman-Larsson after he returned to Sweden last week following his mom’s passing after a battle with cancer.

The puck drops at 7 p.m. and you can watch the game on Sportsnet.
