Election heats up as NDP and Liberals exchange jabs

BURNABY (NEWS 1130) – The leader of the BC NDP is brushing off several accusations the BC Liberals are making today about four party candidates.

The BC Liberals claim to have discovered a Facebook post in which NDP candidate Ronna-Rae Leonard compares police officers to Nazis. And there are other accusations that another candidate apparently says Indo-Canadians only run in an election to get a higher profile.

NDP Leader John Horgan says he hasn’t seen the specific accusations, but he doens’t seem to be taking them too seriously. “I haven’t reviewed the Liberal attack for the day but this is what they do. I can take the attacks, my candidates can take the attacks, but what I think the public is tired of is a premier whose first response is to attack.”

He adds his party’s focus is the campaign at hand and he’s not concerned. “I think it’s high-time, rather that someone who’s desperate to cling to their job, we should have a government that’s working for people and that’s what we’re going to focus on over the next 23 days. If the Liberals want to get up and attack every morning — that’s their business. I welcome them to do that. I’m going to talk about things that matter to people.”

Horgan says he stands by all candidates running for the NDP.
