ANNACIS ISLAND (NEWS 1130) – A promise by BC’s Liberal leader to build the George Massey bridge has support from unionized workers wanting those jobs, but they haven’t been promised them yet.
Christy Clark is also suggesting the Oak Street bridge may have to be replaced.
Clark was asked about that during a campaign stop at Metro Vancouver’s Supreme Steel. “It is time to get on with building the George Massey tunnel. You don’t get things built by just constantly consulting on things. We want to get it done.”
She was also asked if a new Oak Street bridge is needed. “I don’t know the answer to that today, but I do know, um, that our population is going to continue to grow and we are going to need to continue to invest in infrastructure.”
Some of the workers promised jobs by Clark say they plan to vote Liberal because they need this work.
Others say they haven’t been promised the contract yet and they admit they’re worried about jobs going to temporary foreign workers.
