Body discovered at Richmond park

RICHMOND (NEWS 1130) – The body of a man has been discovered at Terra Nova Park in Richmond, after what police believe was a targeted attack.

Shortly after 6:30 am Richmond RCMP arrived at River Road, where the body was confirmed to be that of a male.

Police say his death appears targeted, and the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has taken over the investigation.

The body was found next to a popular children’s park and the Terra Nova Nature School.

A stretch of path and road along the park’s northwest corner is closed. Cars and pedestrians are being turned back.

One man who lives in the area spoke to NEWS 1130. He says he walks in the park pretty often but he’s not surprised to hear that something could have happened. “It could happen because when you walk further down the dike, there are a lot of trees and people could be hiding there and I’ve seen people at night — they smoke pot here and they’ll start a wildfire.”

He adds there are no lights so he doesn’t go at night, but insists he feels safe in the park.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding this investigation to please contact the IHIT tipline at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihittipline@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
