Increase in early voters in BC

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The first round of advance polling for the provincial election is on this weekend, and Elections BC expects a big turn out.

Andrew Watson from Elections BC says there’s been an increasing number of early-bird voters over recent years.

“If you look at the number of votes cast at advance voting at the last election in 2013 it was about 20 per cent, and if you go back to the mid-90s advance voting accounted for only about five or six per cent.”

Watson says it’s easy to find out where to vote.

“We have a complete list of all of the advance voting places in the province on our website. And we also have a page where you can see where the closest advance voting place to you is on a Google map and it will provide you with directions on how to get there.”

Advance polling locations are open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. this weekend. There will also be advance voting from Wednesday until next Saturday.

General voting day is May 9th.
