Unsung Hero: Knitting enthusiast helps others

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Congratulations to our Unsung Hero Maureen Paterson. She was nominated by her husband John. Take a look at what he had to say about her.

“My wife, Maureen is a passionate charity knitter. Her passions are knitting and helping others. At 70-years-old she knits constantly — at home, in the car (as a passenger), at restaurants, parties and last night she knitted [in the dark] all through watching La La Land. What does she knit?

She knits blankets — 52 last year — for several charities in town, including Ronald McDonald House, Easter Seals House, and sick kids in hospital, shaken babies, and Variety Club.

She knits toques — 77 last year — for visiting mariners at Christmas time, Union Gospel Mission (for the homeless), and countless other local charities. She knits the cutest little hats for premature babies at over 100 a year.

Through several medical challenges herself over the past 10 years, she never stopped knitting for others. She also leads several local knitting circles and teaches knitting in many other groups.”

Alpine Credits is acknowledging Maureen with $500 to say thanks for being our Unsung Hero and they’re also donating $1,000 to the Ronald McDonald House Children’s Charity.
