WASHINGTON, DC. (NEWS 1130) – A man whose network was key to the success of US President Donald Trump is dead. Disgraced former Fox News CEO Roger Ailes passed away this morning.

The 77-year-old had been a huge backer of Trump and even worked on his presidential campaign, but there was a falling out between the two last year.

Ailes had to step away from Fox after being accused of sexual harassment.

His wife, Elizabeth, issued a statement to Fox News confirming her husband’s death. “I am profoundly sad and heartbroken to report that my husband, Roger Ailes, passed away this morning,” Ailes wrote in the statement, which was also published by the Drudge Report. “Roger was a loving husband to me, to his son Zachary, and a loyal friend to many.”

Ailes found the network in the mid-1990s, describing it as both a “fair and balanced” alternative to other news networks.
