Plenty of events this long weekend

CLOVERDALE (NEWS 1130) – With lots of sunshine in the forecast, you should slap on some sunscreen and a hat this Victoria Day long weekend.

Why not make it a Stetson, and throw on some boots as well? It’s encouraged at the Cloverdale Rodeo and Country Fair which starts tonight and runs through Monday.

If you prefer horsepower to actual horses, the so-called Greatest Show on British Wheels returns to Vancouver’s VanDusen Botanical Garden on Saturday. The 32nd edition of the All British Field Meet features hundreds of classic English cars from the pre-war era through the 1970s. Tickets are $8 to $18.

The big top is up at Sevenoaks Shopping Centre in Abbotsford with the Royal Canadian Family Circus, Spectac!, featuring the Argentinean High Wire, the Motor Cycle Cyclone and the intriguingly named Acrobatic Aerial Strap & Silk act. Seats sell for $25 to $50.

Equally family friendly is the Fort Langley May Day Parade 11 a.m. Monday, followed by a community fair. Admission is free to help mark Canada 150.

The Fort Langley Beer + Food Festival is being hosted by Trading Post Brewing Company. A bunch of brewers will be pouring outside the palisades of the historic fort from noon until 5 p.m. on Saturday. You can buy a bus and admission package for $60.

And if Thomas the Tank Engine is your thing, he and his friends are puffing along at the West Coast Railway Heritage Park all weekend. Admission is $24 to $28 and includes hourly train rides with the first departure at 9:30am and the final one at 4 p.m.

And watch and listen for the return of the NEWS 1130 Community Cruiser with Stephanie Florian this weekend as she hits the road for the unofficial start of the summer season. She’s out very weekend through Labour Day.
