Thousands expected at Cloverdale Rodeo

CLOVERDALE (NEWS 1130) – Cowboys and cowgirls are taking over Surrey right now.

The Cloverdale Rodeo is in full swing with tens of thousands of people expected to attend over the four days of the event.

Shannon Claypool, who speaks for the rodeo, says lots of money is being spent at nearby hotels and restaurants this long weekend.

“The economic generator we believe is somewhere between $5 million and $6 million for the Cloverdale community and surrounding areas of Surrey and Langley.”

He says he wouldn’t complain if there were a few clouds in the forecast.

“We want it 20 degrees, we don’t want it too hot where the kids are getting sunburned. I expect another crows around 100,000 people this year over the four days.”

The Cloverdale Rodeo wraps up on Victoria Day.
