No complaints about Evergreen Line six months after opening

PORT MOODY (NEWS 1130) – If you thought bringing SkyTrain to the Tri-Cities might increase crime in the area, it appears that’s not the case.

For the almost six months since the Evergreen Line opened, police in Port Moody have been keeping an eye on crime levels.

“We’re riding the rails, our officers are spending time in and around those stations, those hubs,” says Chief Constable Dave Fleugel.

“We’re seeing a lot more activity around our two SkyTrain Stations.”

But he says so far, there are no complaints about the Evergreen Line.

“We really haven’t seen a real change as a result of the Evergreen extension, yet.”

“We’re really positive about it. We’re trying to police it in a proactive way, and we haven’t seen any impacts yet. We knew it was coming, we partnered with transit police and the community and Coquitlam RCMP.”

Fleugel says things could change as densification is planned around the SkyTrain stations in the years to come, which means there will be more people around the transit hubs.

Fleugel took over as the top cop in Port Moody this spring.
