Details unveiled about creation of hundreds more rental units in Vancouver

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – We’re learning more about plans to making rental housing more affordable in Vancouver.
More than 1,300 new homes are expected to be leased at below market rates.
Luke Harrison, the CEO of the Vancouver Affordable Housing Agency, says city council recently approved plans to offer mixed housing for low-income residents and seniors.
“More than a third of the homes will be targeted at families with new, two and three-bedroom homes providing much-needed family housing in the downtown core. At our Vanness Avenue site, we are excited to be creating affordable housing near the Joyce Street SkyTrain station.”
The housing is located at eight sites owned by the city collectively worth more than $72-million.
“With a persistent affordability crisis and rental housing crunch, finding secure, quality rental homes is a significant challenge. We need more homes for people in Vancouver who are on modest incomes. As the City resets its housing policy, we’ll keep doing everything we can and pursue all options to build more affordable rental housing as quickly as possible,” says Mayor Gregor Robertson.
