Judicial recount possible in at least one Lower Mainland riding

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Just when we thought it was all over, there could be yet another recount in one provincial riding.

The NDP may be applying for a second look at the ballots in Richmond-Queensborough.

One of the concerns in that district is irregularities at polling places, including how absentee ballots were issued, according to Chuck Puchmayr, who is the campaign coordinator for the NDP in that riding.

“People coming to vote absentee in mainland New westminster, which was now a new riding, that lived in Queensborough should have been given a blank ballot and those ballots would have been filled out by hand with a candidate or the party, and they would have been sent to the absentee count.”

Puchmayr says some of those people received a ballot for the other New Westminter riding.

But that’s not the only issue he says he has. He claims on the first day of the recount, those ballots were accepted by Elections BC, but on the second day, they were rejected.

We could know as soon as the end of the day whether the election results of one riding in BC could get another look.

As the results stand now, Liberal Jas Johal holds the seat by just over 130 votes.
