Annual Ski to Sea race brings thousands south of the border

BELLINGHAM, Washington (NEWS 1130) – Thousands of people from all over the world will descend on Bellingham for the 45th annual Ski to Sea Race on Sunday.

The race covers a lot of ground, starting at Mt. Baker in the east and ending about 150 kilometres just off Bellingham Bay in the west.

“It’s the world’s largest multi-sport relay race, with 8 team members on 7 legs,” said race organizer Anna Rankin.

She expects about 20,000 people to take part, when family and friends of those participating is counted in.

There will be some temporary road closures and volume around the area during the race, but Rankin said that shouldn’t deter you from watching.

“I think one of the most exciting places to be is at riverside park in Everson, because its the exchange of the road bikers handing off to the canoeists,” she said.
