Whitecaps try to keep rolling at BC Place

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The Vancouver Whitecaps are on a roll as of late with four wins in the last six MLS matches, but the message at the club’s UBC training facility this week centered around keeping DC United (4pm) in focus. United is currently stuck in the Eastern conference basement with three wins in 11 contests so far.

“I’ve been a part of this league long enough to know that you can’t underestimate any team regardless of their form, or where they are in the standings.” Vancouver’s Jordan Harvey said earlier this week.

“(United) is a tough team. They’ve got experience. If you let them in the game, they will take advantage of it. We’re going into it with the same mindset as though they’re head and shoulders above us.” Harvey added.

The Whitecaps have also turned around their overall showing at BC Place, with three straight home victories, making the dome a tough place to play for opponents – something that was not the case at any point a year ago.

Finish has led to those victories. Vancouver has scored eight times in the last three. Saturday also presents an opportunity for the ‘Caps to climb over the .500 mark, and leapfrog the Portland Timbers. Vancouver’s Cascadia rivals are ahead by two points in the Western conference.

“I’ve challenged them.” Whitecaps head coach Carl Robinson said this week of his club.

“If we want to be a playoff team, we need to be able to win games at home. We didn’t win enough games at home last year. We let too many points slide through our own fault, and we’re trying not to do that this year.”

One potential hitch for the Whitecaps on Saturday could be the nessecary adjustment of the starting XI – Matias Laba will be serving a one match suspension for racking up a few too many cards from the referees. Laba plays a ton, and Saturday marks the first time in five matches that the starting lineup will have a slightly different look.

Next MLS action for Vancouver is June 3rd against Atlanta United FC at BC Place.
