Whitecaps host high scoring Atlanta United FC

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – It’s a first on Saturday afternoon at BC Place, as the Vancouver Whitecaps take on Atlanta United FC. (2:30pm)

While these two clubs have yet to face one another all-time, the focus may be on what Atlanta can do offensively, and how the ‘Caps can handle it. It’s not often an expansion team leads MLS in goals, but Atlanta has found the back of the net 27 times already this season, which puts them at the top of the table in that category.

Atlanta midfielder Miguel Almiron will be the finisher to key on for the Whitecaps. The 23 year-old has scored five times in the last two games. The Whitecaps’ Matias Laba is expected to draw that tough assignment on Saturday afternoon.

“I think their attacking four is playing very well right now.” Vancouver’s Jordan Harvey said earlier this week.

“I’ve been watching them from a distance, just interested in their signings and how they’ve build their team. (Atlanta’s) an attacking brand and they’ve been scoring a lot of goals. We just have to do what we’ve been doing, and focus on us.”

Staying with Vancouver, Fredy Montero has struggled to find the back of the goal – the Colombian hasn’t scored in five games. But he admitted it wasn’t due to a lack of opportunities.

“At this point I’m feeling good. I know I have to score goals. I know it’s going to come.” Montero said at training this week.

The Whitecaps will have one more match on the home stand after this one, but a one week break will follow Saturday’s battle with Atlanta.
