A 19-year-old was arrested in the village of Lund on Saturday morning, after police found two people dead

LUND (NEWS 1130) – The mayor of a Sunshine Coast community close to where a double homicide took place yesterday says the community is shocked by the crime.

A 19-year-old was arrested in the village of Lund on Saturday morning, after police found two people dead and a man suffering from non-life threatening injuries.

Police say it likely wasn’t a random act of violence, and the public is not at risk.

Powell River Mayor Dave Formosa used to co-own the Lund Hotel and says the crime has shocked the community.

“These were good kids, we’re baffled.”

He says the community isn’t concerned about any ongoing violence in the area.

“The person that has done the shooting is in custody, and there’s no reason, people are not afraid. There’s no reason to have fear.”

“It’s a very, very safe community and statistically across the country I think our numbers show that. It’s just a big, big shock, and sad, very very sad. A terrible day.”
