Axe or hatchet attack in New Westminster

NEW WESTMINSTER (NEWS 1130) – The details aren’t clear yet but one man did end up in the hospital after being attacked in New Westminster yesterday.

The man was walking through the baseball diamond on the northeast corner of Moody Park when he ran into a group of people according to New West Police Sgt Terry Duht.

“There were some words exchanged and one of the individuals produced what was believed to be a hatchet or an axe. That was used to assault this person.”

The man suffered minor injuries but were still concerning to police.

“The injuries are not life threatening. There’s no danger to the public. It appears that the parties knew each other.”

Duht says the investigation is still ongoing.

“We are looking for more witnesses that can come forward and give us some more information.”

No one has been arrested yet.
