Silent protest to send message on animal cruelty

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Hundreds of activists are gathering on the Stanley Park Sea Wall this afternoon to send a quiet message about animal cruelty.

Anna Pippus, who speaks for the “Roaring Silence” event, says the message is simple.

“Animals deserve their freedom. They want to be free to live their lives with their families and they are suffering being exploited at the hands of the food, clothing, entertainment, and research industries.”

The plan is to march in silent lines, holding signs, all to draw attention to what they call crimes against animals.

“This will be a silent protest so activists will not say a word,” says Pippus.

“They say a picture is worth a thousand words and sometimes a silence can be deafening.”

“Many members of the public don’t fully understand what animals endure and through our silence, our mournful silence, we hope that we will draw attention to the plight of the animals.”

This is the first time a “Roaring Silence” protest has been held in Vancouver. Pippus says it’s modelled on a similar event most recently held in Israel.

“Roaring Silence” runs from noon until 4:00 p.m. on the Stanley Park Sea Wall.
