The Pattullo Bridge will be closed for the weekend

NEW WESTMINSTER (NEWS 1130) – If you rely on the Pattullo Bridge, you’ll need to plan ahead tonight and this weekend. It will be closed to cars for repairs through 5:00 am Monday.

Jill Drews with Translink says the bridge is 30 years beyond its design life, so filling potholes is necessary.

“We’ve been temporarily repairing these potholes since the winter, but they really need a permanent fix. So that’s going to mean we will have to close the bridge to vehicles.”

Pedestrians, cyclists, and emergency vehicles will still be able to use the bridge.

Drews says Translink wants the bridge replaced by 2023.

“We’ve been spending up until now $50 million that’s since 1999, to extend this bridge’s lifespan and keep it safe.”

She says the bridge is still safe.
