Lions look for more road success in Hamilton

HAMILTON, ONT (NEWS 1130) – Before the BC Lions (2-1) return home July 21st to battle the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, a third straight victory away from Vancouver is in their sights on Saturday afternoon in Hamilton (0-2) against the Tiger-Cats. (4:30pm)

The ‘winless’ label is a tricky one for the Tabbies despite their obvious struggles. Saturday marks the home opener at the usually boisterous Tim Hortons Field for Hamilton, and all it takes is one good day to get the early season turned around.

The Lions’ players keyed on a tough atmosphere earlier in the week.

“They’re definitley going to be fighting, scratching for a win.” Lions linebacker Tony Burnett said.

“You definitley have to go out there with a plan, be able to execute, and not make very many mistakes.”

“A team like (Hamilton) you give them a little momentum, they’ll never look back.”

The Ti-Cats have had all kinds of issues on the offensive side of the ball, particularly the way they start games. Hamilton does not have a first quarter first down in the first two games, and only once has the ‘O’ found the endzone. This might have something to do with the team’s struggling running game – the two game rushing average sits just above 20 yards – and that won’t get it done against an already sound BC defensive group.

Speaking of the defense, the Lions’ Solomon Elimimian will be playing in his 100th career CFL game on Saturday. Elimimian is second in the league in total tackles through three games with 29, and has been solid as ever this season, leading the way in the wake of Adam Bighill’s NFL departure.

BC also made a move earlier in the week in special teams – the kicking duties now belong solely to 24 year old Ty Long, after veteran kicker Swayze Waters was released by the club.
