Abbotsford Police car sideswiped by fleeing suspect, police say

ABBOTSFORD (NEWS 1130) – A man wanted on a Canada-wide warrant smashed into an Abbotsford Police car Wednesday afternoon while trying to escape from them, Sgt. Judy Bird said.

Their officers spotted the man around 5 p.m. near where Highway 11 and Highway 1 meet.

“They saw the man in the vehicle, turned on their emergency lights, and as the man attempted to flee he sideswiped the police car,” Bird said.

He then drove over a small embankment and fled the scene.

All three officers are OK, but the car took serious damage.

“It doesn’t appear that the man was trying to harm the public,” she said.

Police haven’t captured the man, identified as Ty Burgess, who is wanted in connection with his parole.

He was last seen in a white 2010 GMC Sierra with license plate LB7085.

If you think you see the vehicle, you’re urged to call police.
