Body found in Agassiz could be that of missing hiker

AGASSIZ (NEWS 1130) – A body found near Agassiz is thought to be one-half of a missing couple from Vancouver.

Mounties say the man’s body was discovered yesterday but has not been officially identified.

Crews will continue to search the Mount Statlu Lake area for the other missing person.

Police began searching for the pair after they were reported missing on July 12th. Gregory James Tiffin and Sophie Dowsley were last seen at a business in Harrison Hot Springs on July 8th.

The couple’s car was found by a hiking trail at Statlu Lake by Kent Harrison Search and Rescue, and crews have been combing the region for well over a week.

“All search resources remain engaged as we continue to look for the missing woman,” said Corporal Mike Rail for the UFVRD in a release. “RCMP remain in close contact with the victim’s and missing woman’s families”.

Dowsley is described as a Caucasian woman, who is believed to be around 5’7″ and 143 lbs, with blonde hair and blue eyes.

Those with information are asked to call their local police department or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).

More to come.
