At least 41 Cariboo homes destroyed by wildfires to date

KAMLOOPS (NEWS 1130) – Dozens of homes have now been destroyed by raging wildfires burning across BC.

The Cariboo Regional District released the number as part of a tally, and adds more than 35,000 people have been affected by flames.

District chairman Al Richmond says the homes that were destroyed were in the rural areas around the fires that broke out almost two weeks ago and forced people to leave with little notice.

Richmond says he regrets the loss and encourages people to extend love and support to these families, adding that it is quite likely that when officials go into areas currently inaccessible due to fire activity, they may find more houses have been destroyed.

Just last week, at least another eight homes were lost in the Central Okanagan, while close to three dozen trailers were destroyed in the Boston Flats area near Cache Creek.
