VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Police have confirmed two officers have been hurt following a crash involving a police cruiser at the intersection of  41st Avenue and Knight Street.

It happened just after 3 p.m., when the VPD reports the marked car crashed with another vehicle. The two police officers have been taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, and no one else has been hurt.

Angie’s rental car was also involved in the crash. She describes seeing the police cruiser’s emergency lights on before it crashed.

“And then I think the force of the hit — it was a big hit. and then made the cop car swerve into my direction, I was watching the cop car coming into my car and I couldn’t do anything.”

She says it looked like the police cruiser had its emergency lights on and slowed down at the intersection.

“But then I don’t know what happened. The white car came out into the intersection right when the cop car came in,” she explains. “So the white car hit this cop car right at the passenger seat, you can see the door is completely smashed.”

Our Darren Grieve flew by in the NEWS 1130 Air Patrol. “All the emergency crews were dispatched to here so we had a couple of ambulance, couple of firetrucks as well and of course a lot of police vehicles here at the Shell station at the corner of Knight and 41st.”

Grieve describes seeing police tape up, and while many of the emergency responders have left, police are still on scene investigating.
