Delta Mayor continues to push for Massey Tunnel replacement bridge

DELTA (NEWS 1130) – The lone municipal politician in Metro Vancouver who publicly supports a bridge to replace the Massey Tunnel is set to make a last ditch attempt to gain more support.
Delta Mayor Lois Jackson is set to appear at this morning’s TransLink Mayors’ Council meeting with a plan.
Mayor Jackson is in favour of that rather large, expensive ten lane project that she believes will make things easier for commuters who drive to and from work every day, but she’s also calling for that tenth lane to connect to a future LRT line that would run south from Delta clean through to Chilliwack.
“You don’t have any options. You don’t have any buses to go from here to there or a convenient way to get on a SkyTrain or something. Nobody understands that if you’re living in an area that is used to those amenities.”
She says people in Delta and elsewhere south of the Fraser River deserve better when it comes to their commute.
“You just have to look at where the projects have gone, they have gone to Richmond, gone to Vancouver, through Burnaby, Coquitlam. Everything has been done north of the river.”
Jackson admitted though, she doesn’t expect much in terms of the level of support she may receive for her proposal.
