New Westminster officer charged with sexual assault

NEW WESTMINSTER (NEWS 1130) — The New Westminster Police Department is promising to be as transparent as possible as one of it’s members has been arrested and charged with sexual assault.

The officer was arrested by a member of a Victoria Police Department, Tuesday.

The investigation stems from an alleged off-duty incident in Victoria in 2005.

Deputy Chief Constable Dave Jansen says the department remains committed to providing professional service to the members of this community.

“This is always concerning when a police officer is accused of a criminal offence, especially one as serious as this. The New Westminster Police is committed to maintaining public trust and accountability and within the bounds of what due process allows, we will be as transparent on this process as we can.”

The Office of the Police Complaints Commissioner has already been investigating the case.

Now that charges have been approved, a Police Act investigation will also begin.

Constable Sukhwinder Dosajnh, also known as Vinnie, faces one count of sexual assault and is scheduled to be in Victoria Provincial Court in the afternoon of August 17.
