Cars parked at trail heads near Port Moody a target for thieves, say police

PORT MOODY (NEWS 1130) – Thieves are targeting cars parked at trail heads and parks, and Port Moody Police hope you’ll heed their warning.

Sgt. Brad Sheridan says they’re investigating a ring of thefts from cars parked in those areas, and are urging people not to leave valuables in their cars.

This follows the arrest of a Surrey woman on theft charges, and their subsequent investigation has broadened.

“It became clear that individuals are specifically targeting trail heads and parks, where vehicles are going to be unoccupied for a time,” he says.

Thieves aren’t necessarily just looking to steal wallets or purses, but could also try and steal your identity, Sheridan says.

He couldn’t comment on investigation specifics, but says they’re still going through all the possibly stolen material they recovered following that arrest.
