Thieves targeting cars parked at trailheads, parks

PORT MOODY (NEWS 1130) – Don’t leave anything valuable in your car when you go hiking — or when you leave your car in public.

That’s the message from Port Moody Police, who say thieves are targeting cars parked at trailheads and parks.

“Individuals are specifically targeting trailheads and parks, where vehicles are going to be left unoccupied for a period of time,” says Sgt. Brad Sheridan.

Back in June, a woman reported a theft from her car, parked near St. Johns Street; a purse was stolen and her credit cards were used at a nearby business. After a review of video surveillance, a suspect was arrested in the case.

“We remind people not to leave anything of value in your car. There are people actively looking for your purse or your wallet that you’ve left in your vehicle,” he adds.

Sheridan notes you shouldn’t leave anything in your car, adding wallets and purses are favourite targets for thieves.
