Fire at Surrey home shows how quickly flames can spread in dry conditions

SURREY (NEWS 1130) – Hot and dry conditions were partly to blame for how quickly a late-night fire in Surrey grew.

It happened at a home on 152nd Street near 61st Avenue.

No one was hurt, but Battalion Chief Reo Jerome believes this call serves as a reminder to every one about how important it is to be vigilant during this time.

“This house was fully surrounded by trees and with the involvement of the fire, of course, it went straight into the trees. And they were candling… all the way to the top. It was quite spectacular,” he describes.

“We’ve been very nervous about fire starting anywhere in the city and being spread due to the dry conditions,” adds Jerome.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
