Seahawks are no longer the team for BC bettors

SEATTLE, WA. (NEWS 1130) – The NFL is back and for some of you football fans that means putting your money where your mouth is and it looks like our local team is no longer the favourite of local bettors.
Heading into the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons, the Seattle Seahawks had the most bets in BC to win the Super Bowl but that’s no longer the case. “This season, they’ve fallen to third with most bettors putting their money on the New England Patriots to win Super Bowl 52, so Seattle is behind New England and the Oakland Raiders. This is a bit surprising because the Seattle Seahawks always had strong local support in Vancouver and this is reflected in the betting but this year things seem to be bucking the trend.”
Just because Seattle is leading the pack anymore doesn’t mean they don’t have a good chance to win. “With that said, the Seahawks still have very good odds of winning the Super Bowl at 9-to-1 odds which are just behind the New England Patriots who won the Super Bowl last year.”
Doug Cheng with the BC Lottery Corporation points out the NFL still gets the most bets of any pro sports league on a per game basis. “Last season, approximately $15 million [was] wagered on the NFL on more than one million bets. And that’s actually up from $14.6 million in the previous season.”
The number two league for betting is the NBA.
