NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Thousands of commuters found themselves caught in an extra-slow crawl on Highway One this morning thanks to paving work on the North Shore.

Two westbound lanes were blocked approaching Lonsdale for almost the entire morning rush. TransLink also says some bus delays were also reported due to the construction.

“It looked like they were doing regular paving work,” says Darren Grieve, who tracked the backups in the NEWS 1130 Air Patrol. “It was supposed to have wrapped up in the overnight hours but they continued, and they cleared it up just before 8:30 this morning.”

He says the the ongoing road work “had traffic backed right over the Iron Workers Memorial Bridge, and at the worst point it was backed all the way to Gaglardi. Just another nightmare for the Highway One Burnaby Lake stretch today.”

NEWS 1130 has reached out to the Ministry of Transportation for an explanation.
